Isn't it ironic that of the two contenders of that Presidential race, the winner will go down in history as the one who started wars and the other would receive the Nobel Peace Prize? It reminds me of an article I read several years ago, when Yasser Arafat was in house arrest in Ramallah and Israel was throwing rockets into Ramallah, trying to kill him, and the article said that one Nobel Peace Prize winner is about to be murdered by another Nobel Peace Prize winner (Shimon Perez who was the Minister of Foreign affairs of Israel at the time, I believe.)!
Analysts said that Al Gore lacked the charisma necessary for winning the race back then. Well, a man who had a shoe in, with the higher votes, lost and instead of becoming another politician waiting in the wings to have a piece of the "elected office" pie, chose to go follow his heart and do what he understood best, the environment. I doubt he has grown much in the charisma department in the years since, but in being a politician who gave up power, moving like a travelling salesman, taking the message of global warming to every corner of the country and the world, he became an icon. He had my vote back then and he will have it again if he runs again. I doubt he will, though, as he has figured out that it is infinitely more rewarding to follow your heart than lobby money. That's what I think.
Ehsan Jan, Salam.
